Phnom Penh City
Old city of Cambodia, established since
1431 when Ancient Capital of Angkor was
abandoned. According to the legend,
Phnom Penh was erected by Madam Don Penh
who was a noble woman at the confluence
of the Mekong and Tonle Sap River. She
had found a flooded tree’s trunk which
floated from Mekong River at her River
bank. A hill was built up for installing
4 Buddha statues which were gotten in
the trunk. The temple which sheltered
statues on the top of the hill was
called Wat Phnom Don Penh. Phnom Penh
was called later on after the word Wat
Phnom Don Penh is too long. Generally
and easily to be called is “Phnom
Penh”. Then it is presently used as
an official name of the capital of the
kingdom of Cambodia.
Master plan and old buildings to day
were built during the French time
(1863-1953). Industry factories,
stadium, Markets, Royal palace are the
remains after the destruction during the
Khmer Rouge time (1975-1979). The city
used to be abandoned for almost 4 years,
it was a ghost city. Fortunately, the
city has been liberated from Khmer Rouge
in 1979 and gradually changed.
Infrastructure, houses, official
offices, markets, shops, and industrial
factories are renovated and built for
the development of the city.

Phnom Penh Tours
Phnom Penh Tours
Phnom Penh Tours
A most memorable and
comprehensive week´s tour for
our 2 families (a party of 10
made up of 4 adults and 6
energetic children aged between
6 years old and 14 years old, so
it wasn´t easy by any means!)
One family flew in from
Singapore and the other from
Japan, and on different days as
well, but Vivath in his
"laid-back" manner organised
things so well, it went
swimmingly. The hotel was
friendly and comfortable, food
delicious, tour itinerary
marvellous, Vivath (and San the
driver, a super and steady
driver at that) greeting us each
morning with smiles on their
faces inspite of a couple of wet
days.........cultural education
with great fun, we thoroughly
enjoyed ourselves! Highly
recommended, and absolutely
great value-for-money using
locals, which we totally approve
of!
